Summary
Bayan ("the App") is a Quran-learning app for iPhone and iPad published by Central Park Limited ("we", "us") — a daily reader with translation and recitation audio, Qaida, Makharij and Tajweed lessons, memorisation tools, a daily Amal loop, on-device prayer times with a Qibla compass, Focus app blocking, and Ask AI answers grounded in real tafsir. The App has no accounts and no sign-in. There are no ads and no tracking. Your learning progress syncs privately through your own iCloud account when iCloud is on. Your location and your recitation recordings never leave your device. The sections below explain exactly what leaves the device, and why.
Information We Collect
The App has no accounts and no sign-in. We never receive your name, email address or contacts. Three kinds of data reach us or our processors, and only in the ways described below: your Ask AI questions, your subscription status, and — only with your consent — anonymous usage statistics and crash reports.
Location (Stays on Your Device)
The App asks for your location only when you first open the Prayer or Qibla screens, so it can compute prayer times and the Qibla direction on your device. Your coordinates are never sent to our server, to Firebase or to RevenueCat.
The only network use of location is Apple's own reverse-geocoder, which turns your coordinates into a city label on screen. That request goes to Apple's system service, not to us or to any third-party SDK.
Microphone (Stays on Your Device)
Tape & Compare asks for microphone access so you can record your recitation and compare its pacing against the reciter. Recordings are written to temporary files on your device and analysed locally; live level analysis runs in memory and is discarded. No recording is uploaded anywhere. Recording starts only when you explicitly tap Record.
Learning Progress and iCloud Sync
Your learning progress, Amal entries and settings are stored in the App's own database on your device. When iCloud is on, they sync through your own private iCloud database. That sync is handled by Apple's infrastructure under Apple's Privacy Policy; we have no access to it and hold no copy of it.
Ask AI
When you ask a question, the App sends the question and the verse context (the verse reference, translation text and a short tafsir excerpt) to our server, which forwards it to Anthropic's Claude API to generate an answer. To protect the service against abuse, each request also carries an App Attest device key identifier, and your daily question quota is tracked against that key. Your questions are not logged by our server.
Answers are AI-generated and may be wrong — they are not religious rulings. See our Terms of Use.
Quran Content (Quran Foundation)
Quran text, translations, tafsir commentary and recitation audio come from Quran Foundation. The App requests them through our server, which holds the Quran Foundation credentials, and keeps a copy on your device for up to seven days for offline reading. Recitation audio streams directly from Quran Foundation's audio host, which therefore receives your IP address like any web request. No personal data is sent to Quran Foundation. Tafsir shown in the App is attributed commentary, credited on screen.
Purchases (Apple and RevenueCat)
Subscriptions are sold by Apple through the App Store. We never see or store your payment details; Apple gives us only anonymous, aggregated sales reports. We use RevenueCat to check whether a subscription is active. RevenueCat receives an anonymous app user ID it generates for the installation, plus purchase and receipt information from Apple. It does not receive your name, email address, location or any recording. This identifier is also sent to our server with Ask AI requests so the server can check your quota and premium status.
Usage Analytics and Crash Reports (Firebase, With Consent)
We use Google Analytics for Firebase to understand how the App is used — which screens people open and how purchase screens perform — and Firebase Crashlytics for crash reports. Analytics records only a closed set of typed events (such as "app opened" or "paywall viewed"), with no free text and no identifiers; crash reports carry diagnostic information. Analytics runs only with your consent: collection follows your opt-out choice in the App's Settings, and analytics storage is granted while every advertising signal stays denied, because the App shows no ads. The Firebase SDK also collects an app instance identifier, device model, operating-system and app versions, and an approximate region derived from your IP address. Google acts as a processor for this data under Firebase's privacy documentation.
Focus App Blocking (Stays on Your Device)
Focus uses Apple's Screen Time framework (Family Controls) so you can block your own distracting apps during prayer or study. Your app selection is stored as opaque tokens on your device and never enters iCloud or any server. Bayan cannot see which apps are installed on your device.
No Ads, No Tracking
The App shows no advertising, asks for no app-tracking permission, and uses no advertising identifier.
Children
The App is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Your Rights
Privacy laws such as the GDPR and the CCPA give you rights to access, correct, export and delete personal data held about you. We hold no account, contact, location or recording data about you. For data processed by Apple, Google, RevenueCat or Anthropic, please use their policies linked above, or contact us and we will point you to the right process. We do not sell or share personal information.
Security
Your data is stored inside the App's sandbox, protected by iOS file-level encryption and your device passcode. Ask AI requests travel over encrypted connections, and our server keeps no log of your questions.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as the App evolves. Changes will be posted on this page with a new effective date. Continued use of the App after an update means you accept the revised policy.
